IT'S hard to believe the memorial service for a young boy who drowned could be a joyful event. But that's exactly how Luke Selwyn's service could be described.
With the strong and loving support of more than 300 close friends and family, Luke's parents Fiona and Tom celebrated the life of their "special little boy" last Friday at North Richmond's Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
A small computer, set up at the front of the room, streamed the service live via Skype to Luke's relatives living in England.
The uplifting service, led by Jehovah's Witness elder Bill Saba, urged those gathered to remember Luke with faith and hope.
"He holds a special place in our hearts and he will be watched over by Jehovah until his resurrection," Mr Saba said.
He described Luke as a boy filled with love, who had many things in life he adored.
"He loved to jump in puddles and loved the rain that's why he had such strong legs," Mr Saba said. "He also loved to collect sticks and CDs, and would raid the kitchen cupboards for food. He loved food.
"Water was a constant joy to him and he was just learning to swim.
"But by far his favourite thing was hugs. He loved to give and receive hugs."
