Home invasion: Three hurt in Riverstone rampage

08 Feb, 2012 11:17 AM
A Riverstone family is scared to sleep after a group of balaclava-clad men invaded their home in McCulloch Street and bashed two of its male occupants with metal poles on Monday night.

Stacey Amos, 16, her brother Blake, 17, and boyfriend Timmy Deenine, 17, were all taken by ambulance to Hawkesbury Hosp-ital following the incident which occurred at about 11.30pm.

Miss Amos said she and her boyfriend awoke to four men armed with metal poles smashing down their bedroom door.

“They came into my room when we were sleeping and this one big fella started bashing my boyfriend with a big metal pole yelling ‘get up, get up’,” Miss Amos told the Gazette.

“Then Timmy jumped up, but I got in front of him because they weren’t trying to hit me, and I kicked one of them in the balls.

“Then they hit me in the ankle a few times.”

Miss Amos said her brother Blake had tried to stop the intruders from getting inside the residence and suffered a deep laceration between his fingers in the process.

She said Blake then rushed to the bathroom where their mother was showering to take her into the safety of her bedroom.

“Blake then tried to come in to help Timmy, but they held up metal poles stopping him from getting in.

“They hit Timmy a few more times then left.”

Police from Quakers Hill Local Area Command said the group of men were last seen fleeing the scene in two small dark hatchbacks.

Miss Amos said her boyfriend Timmy suffered bruising and cuts to his chest and back, and a susp-ected fractured ankle and little finger in the attack.

She said the house also suffered extensive damage, with the intruders knocking the television over, smashing holes in the walls and breaking a computer.

“The police are coming to examine the house ... we don’t really know why it happened to us,” Miss Amos said.

The Quakers Hill LAC – NSW Police Force Facebook page was flooded with comments from people demanding laws to change so that residents had more power to defend themselves in their homes.

“Laws need to change so we can defend our homes and not get into trouble for it,” Chris Kelly posted on Facebook.

In another: “In America, along with fire plans for houses, families have to have home invasion plans as well. I fear we are going to have to do the same thing,” Leanne Pollock said.

Quakers Hill Police believe the incident could possibly have been a targeted attack, but investigations into the matter are continuing.
