THE Hawkesbury Gazette has been recognised for its exceptional layout at the recent Country Press NSW Awards in Sydney.
The Gazette picked up first place as the Best Presented Publication for Weekly and Bi-Weekly newspapers.
The judges said the paper's bold red masthead set the tone for a "bright, imaginative newspaper". Their comments went on to say:
"Its front pages look great, while the inside pages are consistent and easy to read, with good use of pictures in both news and sport."
Gazette photographer Kylie Pitt also picked up an award, winning runner up for Photo of the Year.
Judges said Ms Pitt's entry demonstrated both her passion for her subjects and her knowledge of how to capture them well.
The paper picked up yet another gong in the Special Publications category.
The Gazette's magazine Hawkesbury Lifestyle was runner-up in this section, garnering plenty of positive comments from the judges.
The publication's "imaginative and original story ideals" were commended, including columns such as "Now & Then", "A Day in the Life Of" and "For Better or Worse".
The "elegant design, quality photography and large gloss format" were also highlighted.
