Changing the locks for children

03 Sep, 2008 12:57 PM
WINDSOR hairdresser Maria Forster is glad she was given the honour of chopping off Penny Milb-urn’s lovely long tresses last Thursday.

The 50cm long hair is not going to the bin but to a charity in Florida, USA that makes wigs for children who lose hair due to illnesses such as alopecia areata.

Ms Milburn planned to keep her hair long but it all changed when she found out about the number of children around the world suffering from hair loss.

Ms Milburn has been helping Starlight Foundation ever since her friend’s four-year-old nephew passed away due to cancer.

“I’ve seen kids get picked on when they lose their hair from chemotherapy and it made me think,” Ms Milburn said.

“I’ve got all this hair that I really don’t need now so I’m donating it to make wigs for children.

“I raised money for the Starlight Foundation leading up to the cut. Eclips hairdressers in South Windsor kindly sponsored me, doing the cut for free so that more money could go to the children as well.”

So far Ms Milburn has raised $1000. Generous readers can donate by emailing info@locksoflove.org or www.locksoflove.org
