CHANGES to the Westbus route through Windsor shopping precinct have left some older passengers distressed and Windsor shops fearing financial repercussions.
New Westbus timetables came into effect on Sunday, October 11, which changed the route of the 668 Westbus bus into Windsor, mainly due to safety concerns of bus drivers about the narrowness of George Street.
The new route no longer runs up George Street past Riverview shopping centre and Target, and on Monday and Tuesday last week, several distressed older shoppers approached management at Riverview to say they couldn't get the bus there anymore as it now dropped them in Kable Street. None of the shoppers who approached Riverview had been aware the route changes were to take place.
Instead of coming straight up George Street and dropping passengers near Riverview and Country Target, the bus from Windsor Station now turns right at Hawkesbury Valley Way, left onto Macquarie Street, left onto Fitzgerald Street, right onto The Terrace, then right into Kable Street where it drops passengers outside Woolworths. It then proceeds up to Macquarie Street.
